Caesarean
It is the delivery of a baby in which an opening is made in the lower part of the mother's belly.
A cesarean delivery is performed when it is not possible or safe for the mother to deliver the baby through the vagina. The procedure is usually done while the woman is awake. The body is anesthetized from the chest to the feet, using epidural or spinal anesthesia.
The mother is awake during the procedure, so she can hear and see her baby. In many cases, the woman can have a support person accompanying her during the birth.
